Eco Monday: Green Marketing 101
Written on April 19, 2010 by admin

Green marketing refers to any of the marketing tasks you do for eco friendly or organic products. This can include:
- Touting the green benefits on packaging
- Including a green message in advertising
- Writing informative articles on the company blog or article sites
- Participating in conferences and eco fairs
Obstacles
Despite some regulation by the FDA on the term organic, the green industry still has a lot of trouble with defining. If you say your product is “green,” or “eco-friendly,” what does that really mean? A marketing message should be transparent and open. Explain what you mean. If green means you use 10% recycled materials, say so, otherwise consumers may feel misled.
Effective Green Marketing
If your product is green, tell the world! Natural products are hot right now, and with consumers being highly educated about eco and organic, you can’t miss out on the opportunity to let them know you are taking strides to make better, more sustainable products. Here are some other tips:
- Be honest. As I said above, honesty is key in building a relationship with your audience.
- Be the information source. Provide as much content as you can on your blog, article sites, Twitter and Facebook.
- Keep it consistent. If you mention your eco qualities on your website, do so on your packaging, ads, and social media sites.
