How to Pitch the Marketing Eggspert
I like reviewing marketing, PR and social media related books and products, and occasionally blog about particularly interesting campaigns. My time is valuable; there is $50 fee for me to review your product, service, book or campaign.
Each post reaches:
- My RSS subscribers and visitors to my blog
- My 6200+ Twitter followers
- My 2000+ Facebook friends and followers of Egg’s page
- Digg, Stumbleupon, Google Buzz and other social bookmarking sites
If you have a product that my entrepreneur audience can benefit from, here are a few tips for getting a response from me.
1. Know that I am a marketing consultant. I know what a bad pitch is, and I get a lot of them.
2. Read my blog! Put in at least a little effort to show me you know what I write about. You might find that what you want to pitch isn’t a good fit.
3. Don’t just paste your press release in an email. I will delete it. Write a note telling me why I should take the time to read it.
4. I don’t want to interview your CEO. I’m looking for hands-on experiences and benefits I can take back to my audience. They don’t care if your fiscal year was outstanding. They care about the product being useful and affordable. Work with that.
5. Follow up. I don’t mind you checking back to see if I got your email. If it was a bad pitch, my frustrations have probably worn off and I can politely decline your offer when you follow up.
6. I like new ideas! Even if you don’t have a product to pitch me, if you have an idea about something I can write about, please do contact me!
