I Create Jobs…And I’m Proud of It

Written on February 16, 2012 by admin

When I watch shows like Shark Tank and see people who are struggling to run manufacturing companies that will provide Americans jobs, it’s hard for me to relate. At least, it was until recently.

While the smart business move for many of them would be to outsource the work overseas, they’re not the only ones who can create jobs here.

I do.

It was only this week, when I was crowing to myself about how I doubled my staff last year, that I realize: I create jobs.

And the kinds of jobs I create are unique: many people – most of them mothers – can’t or don’t want to work 40 hours a week. But to find steady, well-paying work that can be done at home, well that’s another story.

I have a team of four writers who have flexible schedules and make decent money. They’re all part time and have other gigs, but I am so proud that I help them be able to stay home with sick kids, pick them up from school and maintain a healthy work/life balance. That’s a lot of the reason I created my business (for myself).

I may not be solving the deficit with my tiny marketing company, but I like to think I’m making a difference in at least four people’s lives.
