Marketing Eggspert Makes Top Twitterers in Orlando List
Written on December 8, 2008 by Susan Payton
I was pleasantly surprised to see Etan Horowitz of the Orlando Sentinel post the top 20 Twitterers in Orlando this weekend…with me as the caboose on the list! The list was compiled by Twitterholic, an Orlando based company that compiles Twitter stats.
I had no idea we had so many great Twitterers in Orlando (I actually met a few at a recent Tweetup put on by IZEA. Most have blogs, like me, and most are entrepreneurs in one field or another. I’m honored to make the list (though I will definitely be higher next go ’round!)
Don’t have a clue what I’m talking about? Go back to the basics to understand what Twitter is and why it’s a great marketing tool, then continue reading this.
Putting the “Social” in Social Networking
Ok, so why do I care that I made a local list? First of all, it is GREAT when you can make any list at all. Even if you made the list up. It’s free publicity. The first thing I did was look up everyone up on the list and follow them on Twitter. I hope they did the same. So instantly, I have a wider audience. I have people locally I can now connect with on this common denominator. And I have some prestige, however small, in the social media realm.
Social media is slow moving when it comes to results. I’m still making my inroads. But I’m playing by the rules, trying not to spam or be annoying, and I’m creating and participating in conversations. And I’m seeing people who have had real successes by participating in social media. You’ll be able to read about many of them in my upcoming book, but here’s a great example. Chris Brogan, social media guru extraordinaire (recently found charging his iPhone at a bar because he had Tweeted the life out of it), told me he has doubled his income as a result of the connections he’s made through social media sites like Twitter. A-mazing. (and yes, I did rub him to get some of that magic. not inappropriately, of course)
So if you’re skeptical, let this be a reason for you to consider getting on the social media bandwagon. What do you have to lose?
