What to Expect for Marketing in 2010

Written on December 28, 2009 by Susan Payton

In 2009 we’ve seen some pretty fascinating trends. Twitter is no longer a foreign word to most, and is now being used by local news stations, mom and pop stores and, well, my aunt. Mobile is just starting to kick in high gear for everyday use like it is in Europe and Asia (where they even pay for things with their phones), and I look forward to seeing more interactive coupons and SMS marketing in 2010.

Everything’s getting more interactive, and I love it. Whenever a website has its Facebook and Twitter links, I feel more at home (in fact, I’m now looking for it first). And transparency is something no company can afford to overlook these days.

eMarketer sent me their projections for 2010, and I thought I’d share them with you. Here’s the summary. Click here for more.

  • Hybrid Plans that Combine Subscription Fees with Advertising
  • More Transparency on Websites Could Undermine Online Ad Efforts
  • Social Plus Search Will Equal Better Results, More Ad Opportunities
  • Mobile Commerce’s Time Has Arrived
  • Retailers Grapple with Measuring Social Commerce
  • Mobile Is Moving Into the Mainstream
  • Earned Media Takes Center Stage
  • Social Ad Networks Will Expand
  • Twitter
  • Online News Content
  • Digital Video Convergence
  • Look to the 55+ Age Demographic for Internet Usage Increases

What do you think? Have anything to add to the list?

just think how much the Internet has evolved in the past 10 years. It is pretty scary once you sit down and actually think about it. Technology is getting better, and better, and I think it will make it easier for us as entrepreneurs to grow our home-based businesses.
