Despite me telling you that SEO is crazy important, I actually don’t think about it a lot for Egg. Am I a hypocrite? Not really. Here’s why.

SEO and keywords are important when you first start blogging, as well as when blogging on your own website is all you do online. Nearly six years into business, I’ve managed to create a presence for myself online through guest blogging, blogging for clients, and social media updates.
Occasionally when a potential client calls, they tell me they found me by searching some set of keywords, but more often than not, they say:
“I read a blog post you wrote.”
A lot of times, they don’t even remember the site, but they know it was about small business. Something about that post I wrote told them I was an expert, and maybe I could help them.
So you see, my thought leadership efforts go further than any keywords could. Now don’t get me wrong: I do use keywords. They just come pretty naturally to me by now, so I don’t have to search to know if I’m writing about blogging, “how to blog” is a pretty good keyword to use!
So if you’re constantly spending time trying to get the perfect mix of keywords to boost your placement on search engines, I say: take a break. Instead, focus on being found on multiple sites with good content, and the rest will fall into place.
